PAR 56
A Norman Lamps PAR 56 is a directional light bulb constructed with a heavy glass, waterproof sealed beam. The "56" designation refers to its physical size, translating to a standard diameter of 7 inches, or 177.8 millimeters. Depending on the specific Norman model, dimensions can range slightly, with diameters up to 7.25 inches and overall lengths between 4.25 and 5 inches. For electrical connections, Norman PAR 56 models predominantly feature heavy-duty brass screw terminals, sometimes utilizing locking washers for added security. Other standard PAR 56 lamps found in the lighting industry may utilize a Mogul End Prong (GX16d) base.
These lamps are engineered for diverse power requirements, with Norman offering wattages that include 120W, 200W, 300W, and 350W. They are also manufactured to support a wide spectrum of input voltages, such as low-voltage 12V and 30V DC systems, as well as 75V and standard 120V circuits. Internally, these fully dimmable lamps frequently utilize quartz-halogen capsules or feature rough service filaments with heavy-duty supports for increased durability. The expected lifespan of these bulbs varies by specification, commonly ranging from 500 hours for specialized high-intensity spot lights to 2,000 hours for lower-wattage flood models.
Norman PAR 56 bulbs are produced with precise beam control, offering targeted beam spreads such as Narrow Spot (SP), Medium Flood (MFL), and Wide Flood (WFL). Designed to maintain sustained lumen levels and effective beam patterns over their operating life, they serve as direct replacements for all major lighting brands. Because of their rugged, waterproof construction, specific 30V DC models are highly sought after for demanding industrial and transportation applications, including trains and mining operations.
